Welcome to ARUPS Congress 2010

The ARUPS Congress which is held every two years provides a wonderful opportunity for academics, practitioners and students in the area of psychology from all over this region to come together.
The 3rd edition of the ARUPS Congress will be held in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur, from Oct 2nd-3rd, 2010. This congress will be hosted by the Malaysian Psychological Association (PSIMA) in partnership with HELP University College.

The theme of this congress: "Understanding Minds, Empowering Lives: Psychology's Role in the Future of South East Asia", reflects the core objective of ARUPS, which is to strengthen psychology in this region and find new applications, paradigms and theories that will ensure its relevance and importance. This theme also reminds us that the ultimate goal of psychology is to bring about positive change in our communities and to improve the quality of people's lives through understanding.

The 2010 ARUPS Congress presents an ideal platform to share research and ideas on how we can progress as an ASEAN psychology community and we look forward to welcoming all of you to Kuala Lumpur in 2010 for this event.

Prof. Allan B I Bernardo

President

It is my distinct honor and pleasure to invite everyone with an interest in psychology in Southeast Asia to join us in the 3rd Conference of the ASEAN Regional Union of Psychological Societies (ARUPS) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in October 2010.  I invite researchers, practitioners, and teachers of psychology and all other disciplines and professions to participate in what promises to be a meeting of diverse perspectives that reflect both the shared and the distinct experiences of peoples of Southeast Asia

The Malaysian Psychological Association and the Help University College are the hosts of our conference, and our Malaysian hosts have designated Dr. Chee Leong GOH to be the Conference Chair.  Aside from appointing a most efficient and energetic Conference Chair, our Malaysia hosts have also chosen the theme “Understanding Mind | Empowering Lives: Psychology’s Role in the Future of Southeast Asia” as the special focus of our conference.  Dr. Goh is preparing an exciting scientific program for this meeting, with Prof. Peter Frensch of Humboldt University, Germany as Keynote Speaker.  The scientific program will feature other plenary lectures by leading psychologists, symposiums, panel discussions, research presentations, and capacity-building workshops, some of which will be conducted in collaboration with the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS).

Our Malaysian hosts also promise excellent facilities and logistical support for our conference activities, and a chance to visit various cultural, historic, and tourist sites in Kuala Lumpur and surrounding cities in Malaysia.

I hope you will all join us in Kuala Lumpur for this exciting conference, as we work together to strengthen the community of psychologists and other scholars and professionals in the Southeast Asian region, expand our knowledge, further develop our skills, meet old friends, and make new ones.
